Burfitt and Garrett Ltd completed this new build Garage, Workshop and Studio in 2024. The project consisted of demolishing the existing outbuildings and replacing them with this multipurpose new build structure.

The existing roadside boundary wall was extensively underpinned, repaired, repointed and waterproofed to form the rear wall of the new structure.

The new building consisted of a well insulated cavity wall structure, with stained Douglas fir cladding and Accoya timber windows and doors. The east face of the building was constructed in natural Greenstone, with brickwork plinths. The flat roof was finished in zinc, with matching guttering and downpipes.

The courtyard has been transformed with the old concrete being removed and replaced with Cotswold gravel. New entrance ramps and steps have been built using cottage mix bricks.

We are delighted to share that Burfitt and Garrett have won a Salisbury Civic Society award for our involvement as Main Contractor on this stunning project in South Wiltshire. Ian Burfitt collected the award at the annual awards ceremony in Salisbury, alongside the Clients and Architect John Comparelli.
This is our fourth Salisbury Civic Society award, including the prestigious Lady Radnor Award.

This project consisted of adding an extension to a grade II listed property to match a previously demolished outbuilding. The walls were constructed using local greenstone and reclaimed handmade tiles were used on the roof.

‘Wonderful Local Response’

We have been mentioned in the local East Knoyle newsletter following recent repairs works completed at East Knoyle Church.

Following damage to the Church roof, caused by Storm Bert, Burfitt and Garrett attended to the works promptly to ensure no further damage was caused to the inside of the historic building.

Let’s hope Storm Eowyn is not as destructive this week!
