At Burfitt and Garrett, we specialise in the resto At Burfitt and Garrett, we specialise in the restoration of historic buildings, combining traditional craftsmanship with modern construction techniques to enhance performance while preserving character.

During the refurbishment of this Grade II listed property, the Clients wanted to improve the thermal efficiency of the ground floor by installing underfloor heating. To achieve this, the existing flagstone floor was carefully recorded and lifted, ensuring every stone could be returned to its original position.

Each flagstone was thoroughly cleaned using the DOFF steam cleaning system by @albernyrestorations This low pressure, high temperature process effectively removes dirt and contaminants without damaging the delicate historic surfaces.

The floor was then insulated using recycled foam glass insulation before the underfloor heating pipes were installed. A breathable limecrete screed was laid over the heating system, providing a traditional, moisture permeable solution that is well suited to historic buildings.

Finally, the original flagstones were carefully reinstated in their recorded positions, restoring the floor to its original appearance while discreetly incorporating a modern heating system beneath. The result is a sympathetic restoration that enhances both the comfort and longevity of this beautiful historic property.
