East Knoyle, Garden room

LOCATION:
East Knoyle
PROJECT TYPE:
DATE:
2019
ARCHITECT:
John Comparelli

About the project

The project consisted of replacing the existing Greenhouse/Studio with a new glazed Kitchen and Garden room extension, which offers stunning views over the Wiltshire Countryside. The cantilevered steel beams removed the need for a structural corner post, which provided unobstructed panoramic views.

The side elevation was constructed in natural building stone, which was all sourced on site and reused in the new extension. Cedar cladding was used externally to cover part of the steel structure. The work also included extensive refurbishment of the existing C19th century property. This project received a Salisbury Civic Society Award in 2020.

The finished outcome

We just felt that we had to contact you to say how much we appreciate everything that has been done for us. We know you all have had enormous frustrations and have worked under very difficult circumstances but the results are fantastic. The craftsmanship and execution are second to none and we can’t wait to be living there.

We are really thrilled with how the house has turned out. The on-site and wider B&G team worked really hard and their positivity, good cheer, willingness to go that extra mile and commitment to do a ‘proper job’ was all hugely appreciated. The transformation in the house is superb and we could not be more pleased.

The project was not an easy task, because of the lack of accessibility, the fragile state of the ceiling and the difficulties posed by fitting three very heavy steel beams within a confined and awkward space. However your staff rose splendidly to the challenge and I have nothing but praise for their professional skills, frequently their innovative solution to problems which arose, and the high standards of workmanship throughout the job.
May I also thank you, Steve, personally for being so attentive and thorough: I always felt that any query – no matter how small! – would receive your wholehearted attention, and the response would be swift and accurate
